Teacher turnover down from 2012
Or, use your
Compare the turnover rates from when DCSD was a world class destination for teachers, before the past 4 years. I would love to have exit interviews with these teachers to improve their work environment. There are SERIOUS problems afoot when two school lose nearly 30% of their staff. Where's H.R. in retaining the most highly skilled teachers?
Rather than comparing the 2012 CDE figure with the current district-released numbers, I think it is more reasonable to compare the district's own statements made in 2012. According to the Denver Post article (Aug 13, 2012, "More than 300 teachers leave Douglas County schools," Clayton Woullard): "Douglas County School District chief human-resources officer Brian Cesare said 304 is less than 10 percent of the teachers in the district". That indicates that the district's self-reported (to the media) summer numbers show the percentage of departing teachers as increasing this year, contrary to this article's headline. In addition, the district is quoted as saying in the 2012 article that the 2012 numbers were a 42% increase over the previous year.
Spin, spin, spin. Let’s at least compare apples to apples. In June of 2012, shortly after signed contracts were due, the district proudly declared that 98% of teachers were returning – 2% turnover. http://www.ourcoloradonews.com/parker/news/majority-of-teachers-sign-contracts/article_95734c70-ba65-11e1-842a-001a4bcf887a.html However, by the time final numbers were in, the CDE has DCSD turnover at 13.26%. Big difference. Here it is June of 2013, shortly after signed contracts were due, and we are already at 11.7% turnover. Does anyone really think that number won’t continue to increase just like it did last year? Spin, spin, spin…
Something is not right with these numbers which were provided by the District...Mountain Ridge Middle School did have two teachers leave, so the report that there was no teacher turnover there is false.
