One lane in each direction of a busy stretch of Arapahoe Road in the heart of Centennial will be closed between April 2 and midsummer.

The reconstruction of Arapahoe Road between Holly Street and Krameria Way is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. This section of Arapahoe is near Holly Park and west of I-25. The project is scheduled to wrap up in July, but depends on the cooperation of the weather.

The section of Arapahoe Road will be completely repaved. Denver-based Brannan Construction was contracted to perform the work.

“The project cost is $1.5 million with $1 million of federal funding. This cost includes design,” city spokeswoman Allison Wittern said.

Although the affected area is only about a quarter-mile long, the project is expected to cause major delays. The city strongly encourages motorists to seek alternate routes. Traffic control and a cone zone will be in place, and fines will be doubled in the area for the duration of construction.

Individuals can receive more information about the Arapahoe Road project by calling the city’s 24-hour hotline at 303-325-8000.

Welcome to the discussion.

    1. What is the reason for repaving this one quarter-mile stretch of road? I haven't noticed it being any worse shape than much of Arapahoe Rd.

    2. Why does it take 3 - 4 months for so short a stretch? I've never heard of two blocks of pavement taking so very long.

    3. I think residents would gladly give up so small a patch of new pavement, (and the headaches of backed up traffic), for the city to synchronize the traffic lights on Arapahoe! It's crazy that this one main road (especially when the speed limit increases to 55 mph) doesn't have its lights set, so you don't have to keep stopping so often!
