Simla High School girls hoops returned from its Class A state championship playoff venture with the No. 1 seed but not a spot in the finals.

The Cubs reached the Final Four of the state tournament after a 58-29 trouncing of No. 8 Kit Carson March 8 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

Simla’s Kenzi Mitchell had 17 points in the Great 8 game. Jaci Digby drilled three shots from beyond the paint.

With the win, Simla advanced to the Final Four, where it faced the No. 5 seed Pawnee March 9 at the same venue. There, the Cubs lost to Pawnee 50-42. The No. 5 seed went on to win the championship over No. 2 seeded Norwood 28-23.

Mitchell finished with 13 points in the semifinals. Digby had 11, one bucket from outside, and Marilyn Alexander had 10.
