There are many things in a person’s life that bring them notoriety, but there aren’t too many people who can actually claim that they were the Easter Bunny.
Yes, once many years ago, yours truly here got roped into being the Easter Bunny at Heritage Square. They gave me a silly bunny suit and a sort of miniature Model T Ford to drive around in and tasked me with handing out candy to hundreds of children plus running the Easter Egg Hunt.
When you are a young single college guy trying to impress the girls, getting your picture in the newspaper is usually a sure bet as a great way to make a good impression. But having your picture as well as your name on the front page of the Rocky Mountain News driving a toy car while wearing floppy ears, a cotton tail and sporting a moustache wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. My girlfriend at the time couldn’t stop laughing about it for six weeks. So much for my 15 minutes of fame.
Well, I’m happy to report that once again Heritage Square will be having another terrific Easter Festival happening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30.
It will feature a live radio broadcast by KOOL 105 and The Wolf, Stretch the Clown, some kind of giant puppet, a stilt walking clinic, lots of candy and other prizes (while they last, bring your own bag or basket) and the Easter Bunny! Yes, they found a replacement for me!
The Easter Festival is free so load up the car and bring the whole neighborhood. Also, please note that it’s not an Easter egg hunt. I guess they bagged that after I hid the eggs so well, I couldn’t even find them myself.
Heritage Square is at 18301 West Colfax Ave. in Golden. For more information, visit www.heritagesquare.info or call 303-277-0040.

This event is free and always a favorite for the kids. Now, make sure to get there a little early because the hunt starts right at 10 a.m.

The Bunny Express is a train at the Colorado Railroad Museum manned by Spike the Railyard Hound and the Easter Bunny. They will give train rides and hand out saltwater taffy from Enstrom’s Candy from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 30.
Admission to the museum is free to members and children under 2, otherwise it’s children $5, Adults $15, Seniors $10 and Families $30.
The Colorado Railroad Museum is at 17155 W. 44th Ave. in Golden. You can find out more about the Bunny Express at www.coloradorailroadmuseum.org or by calling 303-279-4591
The Easter Bunny is going to be exhausted by the end of this weekend, so if you see him on Monday morning, let him get some sleep, OK?
