NREL’s mechanical room pushes water starting at 75 degrees to each circuit board of the servers located on the upper levels. The water becomes heated at 125 degrees and then returns to the mechanical room where it is cooled to 75 degrees. Unused energy from the water loop is used to heat the labs and walkways outside in order to melt snow.
The Energy Systems Integration Facility or ESIF, is the newest building to NREL’s Golden campus. The $135 million building finished construction two months ago.
