Local party continues strategy used in 2009, 2011 elections

The school board should not be political. It should be based on what is best for the kids and their education.
I am really tired of this......I disagree with a lot of actions this school board have taken.
I moved to HR because of the schools. But, this is not the same atmosphere as it use to be. Too many art programs have been cut and it seems that more are on the cutting board.
I no longer have someone going through the DC school system but that does not mean I am not interested in keeping the high standards for the future generations. Public schools are for everyone and should not be jeopardized for some political agenda.
Huh...here I thought the school boards job was to improve public education, not advance a political agenda. Silly me!
Interesting. Steiner says that because "there’s no indication of their party affiliation,” on the ballot, “That makes it very hard for voters to know who to vote for".
What ever happened to voters researching the candidates' positions on the issues, looking at their relevant experience, and voting for the one that they think will do the best job? The school board is a very localized, specific role. The board member's political ideologies on national issues should not be of a concern, especially in a school district that's been highly regarded for so many years and did not need to be "fixed" in such a radical way, so it could be a model for the rest of the country.
Many Republicans, including myself, disagree with the actions that have been taken by the current Republican backed school board, and at least one of them is also running for school board. We are parents who are concerned about inaccurate budgeting that has resulted in unnecessary cuts in recent years, such as the loss of classroom aides, art and music at some schools, and this past year, over ten hours of instructional time per credit hour at the high school level. That's a 240 hour decrease in the minimum instruction time required to graduate.
Voters, please do your own research. Visit www.douglascountyparents.com and www.strongschoolscoalition.org for information about district issues from non-partisan groups of involved and informed parents with students in the district.
