Zoom Track Club is gearing up for its 11th Junior Olympic track and field season. In preparation, the nationally-awarded organization has its Junior Olympic team tryouts 4 p.m. April 1 at Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch. Cost is $15 for all new and returning athletes.
Proceeds are used towards assisting volunteer coaches and the team’s travel fund. A parent meeting is schedule for 4:15 p.m. during the tryouts.
With several graduating seniors, new athletes are needed and are given the opportunity to fill open spots on the Junior Olympic team. Athletes ages 8-18 years are eligible to train and compete for the team. Practice and meet schedules are available online at www.zoomtrackclub.org. The first Zoom practice is 6 p.m. April 23 at Bluff Regional Park, starting early to prepare for the team’s first meet.
“We understand athletes may require flexibility early in the season,” Zoom coach and director Connie Williams said. “Join us as you can and as often as you can.”
Zoom has produced 277 state champions, 636 regional qualifiers and 223 national qualifiers in its history. It is also the home to National Elite All-Americans and Honor Roll Junior Olympians with Top 20 USA performances. It also provides leadership from former world-class and collegiate athlete coaches.
“We show respect and gratefulness for efforts of athletes, parents, coaches, officials, volunteers, sponsors and competitors who make each opportunity possible,” Williams said.
