Organizer says invitation open until day of event

Mr. Wann, instead of "guessing" what the other four candidates will do, why not visit their websites to see what they have to say? Why not attend an event and ask them yourself? Why not talk to your buddy David DiCarlo and convince him to give ALL 8 candidates a chance to weigh in on potential dates for the candidate forum, instead of just the ones that he supports, so that you can attend one where you CAN see the other four candidates speak? This forum was a farce. Equally loathsome are the assumptions you've made about the candidates you oppose, without listening to them speak.
I too would like to see the other four candidates speak. Curious to see if they will sign a pledge to keep the Unions out of Douglas County. The same Unions that gave money to the Democrats to distort our gun laws. The same unions that sat at the table during 2008-2009 and did nothing to help Douglas County. The same Unions that took money from the classroom while in a financial crisis and the very people they represent were being laid off.
I wonder what the Union supported Candidates would do different? I am guessing they want to do the opposite of the current BOE. They want....No savings...No choice...No well paid teachers...No buses...No PERA paid...No good credit score...Stop paying off the massive debt (almost a Billion Dollars) accrued by the past BOE and "spend and run" Jim Christensen. My favorite is they will allow the Unions back in... Why? Because they want control of our children....
If this BOE is flipped what would they do? My guess is that it will look like Obama taking over for Bush and just continuing the same great programs started by this BOE. Two things they will change ASAP. Remove Choice.... Add Unions....
What follows is a letter I emailed to the DAC.
Mr. DiCarlo and other members of the DAC,
As a parent of four children in Douglas County schools, a 10 year resident, and a registered voter I want to express my disappointment in you. My disappointment is in your decision to not reschedule the DAC sponsored Board of Education Candidate Forum. I prefer to be an informed voter and one way to be able to be informed is being able to hear the candidates speak together.
I read that you are planning on sending out a questionnaire as a way for the candidates to respond. I tell you that is not good enough! A written answer, which has been vetted by others, is nothing like a forum where they are required to respond on the spot. I am not naïve and realized that many answers will be rehearsed, but that is not my point. My point, Mr. DiCarlo, is that in this school board race the district should do everything in its power to find a time where both sides can be represented. Yes I could attend multiple forums, hosted by the different sides, to hear what the candidates have to say. I assure you that I will. However, that is different than having the candidates side by side answering questions. Seeing how they respond, how they react, how well they know what they are talking about.
Mr. DiCarlo you are quoted as saying ‘It bothers me we can’t get at least some of the four that can’t make it there”. Does it really bother you? It seems to me that if it bothered you that you would make a concerted effort to find a date that would work for both sides. I realize that finding a date that works for all eight candidates may be impossible. I am sure that you can find a date that works for enough of those eight candidates to make a date change worthwhile.
As a member of the DAC you should desire to show your constitutes a fair and balanced forum. This is the only forum that the district is hosting and you are doing so in a manner that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Do the right thing Mr. DiCarlo. Reschedule the forum. If not, at least schedule a second forum where the candidates are all given a fair voice.
Sincerely,A concerned voter
In a June 25, 2013 article in this publication, it was reported that both Barbra Chase and Ronda Scholting had already registered with the Secretary of State. Why were they not consulted regarding scheduling of this forum? Just a coincidence that one of the GOP slate candidates is on the DAC, one is a current BOE member and liaison to the DAC, and a third is also a BOE incumbent. Certainly not intentional....http://www.ourcoloradonews.com/highlandsranch/news/school-board-election-gearing-up/article_72937eb0-dde5-11e2-9348-001a4bcf887a.html
"The four candidates who have committed to the 6:30 p.m. Douglas County High School event are the slate endorsed by the Douglas County Republicans. The four opposing candidates — Julie Keim, Bill Hodges, Barbra Chase and Ronda Scholting — say the Sept. 2 notice came too late. Keim requested in an email to DAC chairman David DiCarlo that the DAC change the date, “given the very short notice of this invitation.” But after discussions among DAC members, DiCarlo said they opted to proceed as planned."
The District Acceptance Committee was staffed to approve the Board's actions. To give their opponents any chance to show how clearly the board has let down the community would go against their mandate. Any one with a little time watching events in the Douglas County School district knows that this is purely to give their supporters a chance to rally without having to hear from those that represent the children's interests instead of Out of State interests determined to make money on education.
