HISTORY SAYS A LOT! Survivors from past Colorado fires face more than the devastation in losing everything to the fires They then had to face reality of how their insurance companies wrongfully treated them. High Park Fire - Only 51 building permits to rebuild were requested out of the 259 homes destroyed. Waldo Canyon fire - Only have pulled 67 building permits from the 347 homes destroyed. The Four-mile Canyon fire of September 2010 provides the best statistical measure. Out of the 169 homes destroyed, homeowners have filed for 64 building permits — a rebuilding rate of 38 percent.
Why is it? The Insurance Companies know that only 2% of insured American Homeowners AND 4% of Business Owners have NEVER READ THEIR POLICIES. They have no idea what they're entitled to. They do not understand what their premiums have paid for all these years. They rely on under trained, over worked adjusters (most of whom don't understand the policy, either) to inform them of what the Insurance will pay and won't pay for. Every Policy is written differently. So every policy needs to be treated differently.
This needs to stop. People need to ensure they get every penny from their insurance providers, with whom they have put their trust in, paid premiums to and counted on to be there for them when called upon.
