A dynamic and inspirational message

“Dynamic and inspirational” are words to describe Lance S. Carl
and his motivational message, the Umbrella of Success.
A director of student outreach for College in Colorado and former
NFL player, Carl gave Cripple Creek-Victor Jr./Sr. High School
faculty and students the chance to hear him speak Sept. 22 in the
CC-V Cafetorium.
Carl highlighted the seven traits of success: developing a
plan/strategy, discipline, relationships/choices, having patience,
mentoring and having courage. Carl has spoken to more than 140,000
youth in Colorado over the past four years. Aside from pointing out
the seven traits of success, he also spends time during his
presentation discussing the obstacles he overcame in his own life
and why higher education was crucial to his success.
One CC-V senior remembers Carl’s message as him saying that, “It
doesn’t matter where you come from or what your situation is, you
are in charge of your education.” A sophomore recalls Carl’s
message with these words: “Knowledge is the key to the
future.”
We are thankful for Mr. Carl, who came to speak to our school free
of charge, to motivate and inspire our seventh- to 12th-grade
students. His message was one of hope and determination that will
remain with these young Pioneers for a long time.
Homecoming Week
This is our homecoming and
spirit week. As usual we will have our dress-up days through the
week followed by a pep assembly at the end of the week
Thursday.
There will be a bonfire and a try at smashing a car on Friday night
from 8-10 p.m. at the Teller County Fairgrounds. Oct. 8 is the
parade down Bennett Avenue to the school at 9:30 a.m. The high
school volleyball game will be at 10 a.m. with the football game
starting at 1 p.m., both against Peyton.
The fall homecoming dance will be that night, in the cafetorium,
from 8:30-11:30 p.m. with a theme of “Sweet Dreams.” (Sweet, as in
candy or bright colored decorations, and dreams, as in “dream big”
like Rachel Joy Scott pictured. To incorporate more of “the dream,”
students may wear pajamas to the parade and dance). Come one, come
all , support our school and help cheer them on to victory.
