The next meeting of the Future of Regional Transit Steering Committee will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., Dec. 3 at the Monument Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public. Please contact Mountain Metropolitan Transit at 385-5974 if you require ADA accommodations.
During the meeting the committee will discuss potential governance and funding alternatives for regional transit and a vision for desirable attributes/criteria against which to measure the potential alternatives.
The committee completed an electronic survey at the Nov. 5 meeting, the results of which will be discussed. Voting responses included 76 percent of the committee opting that it is very important to provide transit service in the Pikes Peak region, and 94 percent agreed that transit service should be provided to outlying communities such as Falcon, Woodland Park, Fountain and Monument. The full results of the survey are posted on the Future of Regional Transit Web site along with the Nov. 5 Steering Committee meeting summary. A public comment and question period is included at the end of each meeting.
Steering committee members include representatives from each of the municipalities and jurisdictions within the study area, other government agencies, community organizations and citizen groups. The committee will provide its recommendation, which will include a plan to implement the recommendation, to the City of Colorado Springs City Council in February 2011.
