Every so often we go to Star Lighting with our friends. We happened to be their last year. Many of the people around us were hardly paying attention to the fireworks after the first few minutes.
Fireworks and Independence Day celebration go together because they have meaning. It is not just fireworks for the sake of a show. It is a poignant reminder of the price paid for our independence, and a beautiful celebration of what that price bought.
If Castle Rock's town council is so unpatriotic as to loose site of the whole why of fireworks, nixing them for Independence Day so they can make a good show for Star Lighting. Well, we will tell our friends "no thank you" the next time they invite us.
Castle rock just needs to take a lesson and take as much care making Independence Day great as the care they take for Star Lighting.5 months ago
We have friends in Castle Rock -- their town council are a bunch of idiots. The reason people don't go the the CR display is because the town is always screwing up the fireworks and moving it every year.
We tried to attend 3 times with our friends. Once we couldn't find where the fireworks were going off and TWICE the fireworks were stopped mid-show because they were catching stuff on fire! All three times the show was put on in different spots.
Castle Rock has a fantastic location for fireworks that will host a huge crowd, not pose fire danger on normal years, AND draw people downtown. Right there in the fairgrounds -- surrounded by viewing areas in large parks, downtown, and from various other vantage points all around. But the town politics apparently screw them up.
Then they wonder why only 2000 - 3000 people attend? Our friends now come to watch fireworks with us instead of sticking around Castle Rock to see them play the idiots and mess up the fireworks over and over again. We have never seen such a sorry excuse for an Independence Day celebration as what we experienced in Castle Rock.5 months ago
