While none were quoted in this article, I know many amazing teachers who left this year or last year for the same reasons. We need to ask why so many teachers who have touched our kids lives over the years, will no longer be there for the students coming up through our schools. It is not that these teachers are complaining about their pay or even the idea of updating our approach to education, they are simply tired of spending their planning time, training days and free time complying with District mandates that have been shoved down to them and are often changed and then require more work. They are unhappy with how much time is spent on paperwork and "marketing" themselves, rather than having that time with their students and fellow teachers to improve the experience in their classrooms. For those of us in business, it seems that DCSD is focusing on cutting costs and running the District like a business that doesn't care about its customers, our children, and the best interest of the taxpayers related to property values. The problem is that they consider us a captive customer based on where we live. I have tried to be part of the solution for many years in this District, but I am nearing the end of my patience. Let’s work toward having a non-partisan Board of Education that works with teachers, administrators, parents and students to serve their constituents in a collaborative, effective way. Misinformation, censorship and secrecy are not the way to win support. I am one customer who is willing to take my children elsewhere. We love our DCSD schools, principals and teachers, but I just cannot continue to see my children impacted in this way. While I may not be able to control the effect on my property value, I can take the funding for my children (and their exceptional grades and test scores) to another school district that has a Board that recognizes who all of their customers are, and treats them with the respect and courtesy they deserve. Whether you have children in the District or not, please get informed and vote in November to protect our children, their future (which is also this community and nation’s future), and our property values. Thank you for caring!6 months ago
