Obesity is huge problem - I don't disagree. I believe, however, that because we focus so much on obesity, many people think because they aren't overweight they are healthy and don't have to worry about what they eat. I know many kids and adults who aren't overweight but eat horrible, unhealthy food. They think this is fine because they aren't fat!
The first step in all of this would be for school districts to step up to the plate (no pun intended) and stop selling any kind of junk food. Almost all schools sell food ala carte which they know is not good for kids, but they love the money it makes. The kids are learning not to eat certain foods in their health class and they are the exact same foods they can buy in the school cafeteria. Does anyone else see the irony here?
All of the things LiveWell is doing sound great, but until THIS problem is taken care of, I don't know if your programs will make the impact we need them to make.Feb 18, 2012
