As hard as Vic Vela tried to get the reader to weep crocodile tears for Ann Humphrey (Fed Shutdown Puts Lives in Limbo), he failed miserably with me. The article states that Ms. Humphrey has worked for the federal government for 25 years. Since there has been a total of 17 shutdowns over the last few decades, surely this is not the first time she has experienced this. And unlike most Americans who are furloughed and/or laid off, she will get paid for all those days off. I can certainly relate to her financial woes, however, as I too have struggled over the last five years. My savings account, which was once at a quite healthy level, has been decimated, and my debts have increased substantially, thanks to ever higher taxes, insurance, and inflation. And now with the heavy-handed interference of the almighty government in an area of the economy it has no business getting involved in, my bank account is going to suffer even more. The sad thing is, there is no hope for a “brighter tomorrow,” anytime soon, at least not while Ed Perlmutter and Barak Obama remain in their respective offices, maintaining a command and control approach to governing. They are full of pity for government workers who were given a 2-week break from work but couldn’t care less about those millions of Americans who have lost or are losing their jobs thanks to the (Un)Affordable Care Act, which is a disaster through and through. Instead of having the integrity to admit that, they continue to FORCE this piece of garbage down the throats of hardworking Americans who are already struggling due to these politicians’ overspending and failed policies, while, of course, exempting themselves from it.2 months ago
